A huge Canadian newspaper reviewed Nos Faces Cachées, the French translation of Making Faces! What a wonderful review!

Fern has been in love with Ambrose since forever. But, the young woman ignores her feelings! Why? Because Fern, who understood from childhood that she was not pretty, would not dare to approach such a catch! Yet one day, Ambrose does not seem so inaccessible to her anymore . . .

If you're a guy and you just say, "Well, it's just a love story," shake that thought immediately! I would not want to prevent you from reading this novel, because it is for both boys and girls. Okay, this is kind of a love story, but also a war story: five friends go to war, following the events of September 11, 2001, but it's also a personal war as a young disabled boy tries to stay alive as long as possible . . . It is all this that makes Nos Faces Cachées one of the most powerful books of the year!

I put forward the characters of Fern and Ambrose, but I also have to make a special mention regarding Fern's cousin and best friend, Bailey. Wow, what a character! I would even say that it is him who holds the strings that connect all the parts of the book. Bailey is a young man full of hope and courage, his humor is as endearing as it is destabilizing. He's clearly one of the main strengths of Amy Harmon's book.

Another strong point that should not be overlooked: the way the author has chosen to deliver this story . . .  She does not hesitate to throw us right and left, in the present and in the past, which makes the story so much richer. It becomes easy to feel each of the characters, devouring the story of their lives, page after page. The author is not afraid to show us a darker side of life and the passage from adolescence to adulthood: it depicts a very realistic portrait, sometimes hard, but full of light.

In short, Nos Faces Cachées is a novel of a disarming beauty! I guarantee it will make you live beautiful moments. A must read!
